One of the coolest things to see is a batter smashing the ball way over the boundary for a six, showing off their amazing strength. Test matches are known for being slow and steady, where players need to be patient and last long. But even here, some batters have surprised everyone with their explosive hitting!

Batters With Most Sixes in An Innings in Test Cricket

Yashasvi Jaiswal (IND) – 12 sixes

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young Indian cricket star, has taken the world by storm! On the Day 4 of the third Test match against England in Rajkot, he not only achieved the incredible feat of scoring two double centuries in a row but also hammered an impressive 12 sixes during his remarkable 214-run innings. This remarkable performance on February 18th, 2024, tied him for the record of most sixes hit in a single Test innings with Wasim Akram.

Wasim Akram (PAK) – 12 sixes

Back in 1996, during a Test match against Zimbabwe in Sheikhpura, Pakistani legend Wasim Akram, known for his bowling skills, pulled off a stunning batting performance, scoring a massive 257 runs* not out, sending the ball soaring over the boundary for six runs a whopping 12 times! This unbelievable display of power came at a crucial moment, with Pakistan struggling to chase Zimbabwe’s score of 375. Akram’s heroics turned the tide and earned him the well-deserved title of Man of the Match!

Nathan Astle (NZ) – 11 sixes

In 2002, New Zealand batsman Nathan Astle put on a show against England in Christchurch, scoring a massive 222 runs, that too at a record-breaking speed, making it the fastest double-century in Test cricket history at the time! His breathtaking 222 off 168 balls, filled with 28 fours and 11 sixes, was a masterclass in power hitting.

Matthew Hayden (AUS) – 11 sixes

In 2003, Australian player Matthew Hayden made a jaw-dropping knock against Zimbabwe, absolutely crushing them, and scoring a mind-blowing 380 runs! Showing off his power, Hayden hit 11 massive sixes that soared over the boundary, helping Australia dominate the Zimbabwe, and also breaking the previous record for the highest individual score in a Test match, held by Brian Lara.

Brendon McCullum (NZ) – 11 sixes

Living up to his ‘Baz’ nickname, New Zealand’s former captain, Brendon McCullum, proved himself a six-hitting machine in 2014! He twice unleashed his power, smashing 11 sixes each in matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka! One particularly memorable innings was against Sri Lanka at Hagley Oval, where he blasted 11 sixes and 18 fours in a blistering 195 runs off just 134 balls, showcasing pure dominance and leaving the crowd speechless.

Ben Stokes (ENG) – 11 sixes

Ben Stokes turned Cape Town into his launching pad in 2016! During a Test match against South Africa, he wowed the crowd with a blistering knock of 258 runs, making it a true double century. That too in just 163 balls! Stokes sent the ball sailing over the boundaries for 11 massive sixes! To top it off, he shared a mammoth partnership of 399 runs with Jonny Bairstow.

Kusal Mendis (SL) – 11 sixes

During the second Test against Ireland in 2023 at the Galle International Stadium, Kusal Mendis of Sri Lanka treated the crowd to a breathtaking display of power hitting. In his remarkable 245-run innings in 291 balls, he hit sixes for an astounding 11 times and mixed it up with 18 elegant fours, leaving the Irish bowlers spellbound.

Wally Hammond (ENG) – 10 sixes

In 1933, a time dominated by the legendary Sir Donald Bradman, English batsman Wally Hammond carved his piece of history. Facing New Zealand in Auckland, he made a remarkable innings of 336 runs! Hammond sent the ball soaring over the boundary an incredible 10 times! That’s four times more sixes than even the mighty Bradman!

Chris Cairns – 9 Sixes

Chris Cairns’ best performance about the most sixes in a Test innings was against Zimbabwe when he hit 9 sixes during the course of his innings of 120 at Auckland in 1996.
