Six Fest! India vs England Test Series Breaks New Record

The recently concluded India-England Test series wasn’t just about India’s dominant win by an innings and 64 runs. It wrote its name in cricketing history by becoming the first-ever Test series to witness a staggering 100 sixes! The India vs England series has seen 102 sixes and has become the first with 102 sixes.

This energetic series was a true display of aggressive batting, with both teams swinging for the boundaries. The milestone of hitting the 100th six was a special one which was hit by Jonny Bairstow in his 100th Test match in Dharamsala, off the bowling of India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, (both playing in their 100th Test).

England had a reputation for scoring quickly. This series lived up to that hype, with both sides contributing to the six-hitting extravaganza. England managed 30 sixes, but it was the young Indian team that stole the show with a whopping 72 sixes, setting a new record for most sixes by a single team in a bilateral Test series. Yup, that’s right! It wasn’t England who kept sending the ball over the ropes, but India’s young guns, who successfully outshined the English.

One Indian batsman stood out in this six-hitting frenzy: the talented Yashasvi Jaiswal. He smashed a staggering 26 sixes throughout the series at an astonishing strike rate of 79.91. just four behind England’s entire team! This feat comfortably broke the record for most sixes by a batter in a Test series.

Previously, no team had even come close to hitting 50 sixes in a Test series. But India shattered that record in the very first innings of the fourth Test! The third Test in Rajkot witnessed a rain of sixes as well, with India launching 28 of their totals in that match alone, another record.

This historic series is a testament to the changing face of Test cricket. With aggressive captains and fearless young players, the format seems to be embracing a more exciting, fast-paced approach, much to the delight of fans around the world.
