Most Catches by a Fielder in IPL History

In cricket, just like any other sport, fielders can make a huge difference in whether their team wins or loses. A dropped catch at a crucial moment can cost the team the game, while an amazing catch, especially a difficult one, can give the team a big boost and turn the tide in their favor.

Here are the top 5 players with the most catches in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL):

Suresh Raina

Raina is known as one of the best fielders in Indian cricket history, and it shows in the IPL! He holds the record for the most catches (109). He has a catch-per-innings ratio of 0.534 in a total of 204 innings he has featured on the field.

Virat Kohli

We all know Kohli is the IPL’s highest run-scorer, but he’s also a great fielder! He has taken 106 catches throughout his IPL career, all while playing for just one team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inception of IPL in 2008. These catches have come in 235 innings, which makes his catch per innings ratio 0.451.

Kieron Pollard

This West Indies all-rounder is famous for his incredible catches near the boundary. His height is a big advantage, and he often fields at long-on or long-off positions where he can use his reach to grab amazing catches. He has a total of 103 catches so far in the 189 innings of the league with a ratio of 0.545.

Rohit Sharma

The former captain of the Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma, usually fields closer to the batsman (inside the circle) where there are fewer catch opportunities. Despite that, he has a very respectable total of 98 catches in the 243 games with a catch-per-innings ratio of 0.403 in his long IPL career.

Ravindra Jadeja

CSK’s Jadeja is a true all-rounder, excelling in both batting, bowling and fielding. He has played for four different IPL teams and has grabbed 97 catches in 226 matches in his career, making his catch per innings tally to 0.431.

In cricket, especially the fast-paced T20 format, runs come thick and fast. So, bowlers who can restrict the flow of runs are like gold. But how do we measure how well a bowler does this? Here's where economy rate comes in. Economy rate tells you how many runs a bowler concedes on average per over. The lower the number, the better!
