Abhishek Sharma has successfully carved his name in IPL history during Sunrisers Hyderabad‘s thrilling two-run victory over Punjab Kings on Tuesday. The left-handed opener achieved a remarkable feat – becoming the first indian uncapped player to score 1000 runs in the IPL for a single franchise, SRH!
This milestone came during his 16-run knock in the match. He needed just nine runs to reach the magic number, and he did it in style, smashing a mighty six off Sam Curran’s delivery in the fourth ball of the fifth over.
Sharma, a former member of India’s Under-19 World Cup winning team, joined SRH in 2019 through a trade deal. Since then, he’s been a consistent performer for the Hyderabad franchise, amassing 1007 runs in just 49 IPL matches. This achievement places him among the elite, becoming the sixth batsman overall to reach the 1000-run mark for a single team in the IPL.
While he hasn’t yet received his India cap, Sharma’s talent shines brightly in the IPL. With a total of 1070 runs in 52 IPL matches across all franchises, he sits just behind Manan Vohra (1083 runs) for the most runs scored by an uncapped player in IPL history.
SRH’s victory against Punjab Kings wasn’t just about Sharma’s milestone. Nitish Reddy‘s explosive 64 off just 37 balls propelled them to a competitive total of 182 runs while batting first. The bowling attack, led by the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2 wickets for 32 runs), then defended the target brilliantly, with each bowler contributing at least one wicket.
This win marked SRH’s third victory in five matches this season, solidifying their position in the top half of the points table. With young talents like Sharma emerging and a well-rounded team performance, SRH looks like a strong contender for the IPL 2024 title.

The Indian Premier League 2026 has already started delivering high-voltage drama, and one of the biggest talking points so far is the growing pressure on key Indian stars like Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Last year, Mohammed Siraj was the star bowler of the IPL. He dominated the first six overs of innings, taking wickets and barely giving away any runs. This season, however, things have gone terribly wrong for Siraj. In 2023, Siraj was the second-highest wicket-taker in the powerplay, just behind Mohammed Shami. He was so good that his bowling average was just under 6 runs per over
