India and Australia to Face Off in a 5-Test Epic for Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Get ready for cricket fever! The much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia is heating up. Cricket Australia (CA) and BCCI, on Monday, March 25, announced that the competition will be five Tests long, the first time this has happened since 1991-92!

For the first time since 1991-92, Australia and India will compete across a five-Test series this summer. The extended series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be a headline of the 2024-25 home summer schedule set to be released in the coming days,” Cricket Australia posted on X, formerly Twitter.

 

This is a big deal for cricket fans worldwide, especially those following the ICC World Test Championship. Both India and Australia are cricketing giants, and their matches are always intense and closely watched. The extra Test means even more opportunity for these teams to battle it out and prove their dominance in the ICC World Test Championship. The full schedule for the 2024-25 series is set to be released in the coming days.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is excited about the extended format too. They see it as a way to show their dedication to Test cricket, the sport’s longest and most prestigious format. Remember, Test cricket is part of the ICC World Test Championship, so strong performances here directly affect a team’s ranking.

The BCCI remains steadfast in its dedication to preserving the rich heritage of Test Cricket, a format we hold in the highest esteem,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a CA media release. “Our ongoing collaboration with Cricket Australia in extending the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to five Tests underscores our collective commitment to nurturing and elevating Test cricket’s significance. This extension echoes our shared vision to amplify the essence of Test cricket and uphold its legacy,” he added.

India has been on a roll in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, winning the last four series in a row, including back-to-back away Test series wins in 2018-19 and 2020-21. But Australia won’t go down without a fight! They recently beat India in the finals of the ICC World Test Championship, proving they’re a force to be reckoned with.

 

The first Test is expected to be played in Perth later this year, around November. While the full schedule isn’t out yet, cricket lovers are already buzzing with anticipation. This five-Test series promises to be a true test of skill and stamina for both teams, with major implications for the ICC World Test Championship.
