Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to shine in the ongoing Test series against England, making headlines with his exceptional performance on Day 1 of the fifth and final match in Dharamsala. The young left-handed opening batsman not only scored another 50+ runs but also shattered a significant record previously held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, that too in just his 9th match in the longest format of the game.
During his innings of 57 in India’s first innings of the fifth Test, Jaiswal hit 3 massive sixes off Shoaib Bashir. This remarkable feat brought his total sixes against England to 26, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 25 sixes against Australia. What’s even more impressive is that Jaiswal achieved this milestone in just his 9th Test match, while it took Tendulkar 74 innings to achieve a similar feat against the Aussies.
In the ongoing series against England, Yashasvi Jaiswal has accumulated over 700 runs, becoming the second Indian batter to breach the 700-run mark in a single bilateral Test series. The last player to achieve this was Sunil Gavaskar, who accomplished the feat twice in 1971 against West Indies and in 1978/79 against England.
Jaiswal’s stellar performance doesn’t end there; he also reached the milestone of 1000 runs in Test Cricket in his 16th innings, making him the second fastest Indian batter to achieve this after Vinod Kambli. Kambli holds the record for the fastest Indian batter to reach 100 Test runs in just 14 innings.
Notably, Yashasvi Jaiswal surpassed Virat Kohli to become the Indian batter with the most runs in a Test series against England. Kohli’s record of 655 runs in the 2016/17 series was overshadowed by Jaiswal’s outstanding performance. Furthermore, Jaiswal now ranks third in the list of Indian batters with the most runs in a Test bilateral series, surpassing Virat Kohli’s tally of 692 runs against Australia in 2014/15.
