Cricket fans around the world can now cast their votes to pick the best player from the thrilling T20 World Cup! The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for their Player of the Month awards for June, featuring some of the biggest names from the tournament.
India’s triumphant captain Rohit Sharma and their star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah are both shortlisted, alongside Afghanistan’s explosive young opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
Bumrah was on fire throughout the World Cup, taking an impressive 15 wickets at an average of just over 8 runs each. His spells were crucial in India’s victories, especially his Player of the Match performance with 3 wickets against Pakistan and his match-winning 2 wickets in the final against South Africa. This stellar performance also earned him the Player of the Tournament award.
Gurbaz was a key player in Afghanistan’s historic run to their first-ever World Cup semi-final. The 22-year-old started the tournament with a bang, scoring explosive half-centuries against Uganda and New Zealand. Although he had a quieter spell in the middle, he found his form again when it mattered most, helping his team defeat strong sides like Australia and Bangladesh to reach the final four. He finished the tournament as the top scorer with a total of 281 runs and has a chance to become the first Afghan player to win the ICC Player of the Month award.
Leading his team to their first World Cup title in 13 years, Sharma was a true leader and a force to be reckoned with at the top of the batting order. He was India’s highest run-scorer in the tournament with 257 runs, including crucial knocks against Ireland, Australia, and England. His team’s incredible journey ended with a dramatic win over South Africa, making them the first team to win the T20 World Cup without losing a single match.
The winner will be decided by votes from both an independent panel of cricket experts and fans worldwide. Fans can cast their votes on the ICC website, while the expert panel holds the majority of the voting power. The winner will be announced next week, so get voting for your favorite player!
