Most Catches in An Innings in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is a whirlwind of big hits, lightning-fast bowling, and heart-stopping moments. But sometimes, the most spectacular plays happen away from the batsman or bowler – in the field! Here, we celebrate the players with the most catches snagged in a single innings throughout T20 World Cup history.

Daren Sammy (WI)

The undisputed king of T20 World Cup catching is Daren Sammy, the former West Indies captain.  During a match against Ireland on April 30th, 2010, Sammy displayed superhuman reflexes by taking an incredible 4 catches in just two innings at Providence! This fielding masterclass helped restrict Ireland’s batting line-up and put his team in a strong position.

Brett Lee (AUS)

The legendary Australian fast bowler, Brett Lee, proved his worth beyond bowling with three catches in a 2007 match against Sri Lanka.  This showcases that even bowling greats can be fielding stars! Yes, that’s right! Three catches in just 1 inning on 20 Sept 2007 against Sri Lanka at Cape Town.

Sulieman Benn (WI)

West Indies seem to have a natural talent for exceptional catching, with three more players from the Caribbean featuring on this list. First is Daren Sammy, then comes Sulieman Benn, the left-arm spinner, who showcased his all-around skills by taking three catches in a single innings against Australia in 2009. He displayed his incredible skills on 06 Jun 2009 at The Oval Ground.

Lendl Simmons (WI)

Next is Lendl Simmons from the West Indies on the list. Similar to Sulieman Benn, explosive opening batsman Lendl Simmons displayed his hidden talent for holding onto catches with three dismissals in an innings against India. One could only gasp for oxygen and nothing more as Simmons showcased his talent on 12 Jun 2009 at Lord’s.

AB de Villiers (SA)

The list is rounded off by another South African great, AB de Villiers. While renowned for his 360-degree batting, de Villiers is also a fantastic fielder. He proved his well-roundedness by taking three catches in two innings against India during the 2009 T20 World Cup on 16 Jun 2009 at Nottingham.

These incredible fielding feats highlight the importance of all-around skills in T20 cricket. While big hits and fast bowling steal the limelight, exceptional fielders like these can be game-changers by taking crucial catches at critical moments. So, the next time you watch a T20 World Cup match, don’t forget to appreciate the spectacular plays happening in the field! These clutch catches can turn the tide of the game and deserve recognition alongside the big hits and bowling spells.
