Indian Premier League (IPL) superstar Rishabh Pant made history during a recent match between his team, the Delhi Capitals (DC), and the Gujarat Titans (GT). Pant’s blistering knock of 88 runs in just 43 balls helped DC win the close encounter. But it was his performance against a single bowler that truly stole the show.
Pant went on a rampage against Gujarat Titans bowler Mohit Sharma, smashing a record-breaking 62 runs off Sharma’s 18 balls. This isn’t just the most runs scored against a single bowler in an IPL match, it’s the most ever in any T20 match worldwide! No other batsman has ever crossed the 60-run mark against a single bowler in a T20 match before.
This incredible feat adds to Pant’s already impressive IPL season. He joins an elite group of just three players in IPL history to score over 50 runs against one bowler in a match, alongside Virat Kohli and Hashim Amla.
Mohit Sharma, on the other hand, had a day to forget. Pant’s onslaught ensured Sharma conceded a record-breaking 73 runs in his four overs, the most expensive spell in IPL history.
Pant’s knock, along with a crucial partnership with Axar Patel, powered DC to a massive total of 224 runs. Despite fifties from Gujarat Titans batsmen Sai Sudharsan and David Miller, DC held their nerve and secured a thrilling victory.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) icon Virat Kohli has become the first player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to score 8,000 runs.
The new season of the IPL cricket league starts on March 22nd with a big game between the winners from last year, the Chennai Super Kings, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. This season, bowlers will again be competing for the Purple Cap. This cap is a special prize given to the bowler who takes the most wickets throughout the entire IPL season. Only two bowlers have ever won twice!
The Indian fans as well as Gujarat Titans (GT) received a major setback as Mohammed Shami, their key player, has been ruled out of the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Shami, who played a crucial role in India's performance in the ODI World Cup, suffered an ankle injury post the tournament. The ace pacer missed the Test series vs South Africa and was also not part of the squad.
