Which Batter Has Scored Most Runs in IPL Playoffs?

The IPL playoffs are where the pressure mounts and the best rise to the occasion. But who are the batting kings of this high-stakes stage? As the 2024 season heats up, let’s look at the players who have dominated the IPL playoffs with their blades.

Suresh Raina: 714 runs

Suresh Raina, the former Chennai Super Kings batsman, stands tall as the undisputed leader in this category. He’s the only player to smash over 700 runs in IPL playoffs, a staggering feat that highlights his consistency and big-match temperament. Raina’s contribution was crucial to CSK’s success between 2008 and 2019, a period that saw them win three IPL titles and consistently reach the playoffs. Raina’s left-handed batting prowess yielded a total of 714 runs across 24 playoff matches, averaging a healthy 37.57.

MS Dhoni: 523 runs

Following Raina closely is the legendary MS Dhoni, also of the Chennai Super Kings. As captain, Dhoni led CSK to an impressive five IPL titles. His calm demeanor under pressure translated into his batting as well. Dhoni has amassed 523 runs from 28 playoff matches, averaging a respectable 34.86. Interestingly, Dhoni remained unbeaten a remarkable eight times during the playoffs, showcasing his ability to anchor the innings.

Shubman Gill: 474 runs

The future of Indian cricket, Shubman Gill, takes the third spot on this prestigious list. Despite being relatively young in his IPL career, Gill has already carved a niche for himself. Currently leading the Gujarat Titans, Gill boasts a remarkable average of 52.66, smashing 474 runs in just 10 playoff games – the highest average by any batsman in IPL playoff history. He’s also one of the few batters to have scored a century in the playoffs, highlighting his explosive potential.

Shane Watson: 389 runs

The Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson, has been a force to be reckoned with in the IPL. He’s played in the playoffs for three different teams: Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Interestingly, Watson even reached the IPL finals with each of these teams! He holds the record for the highest score in an IPL final with a phenomenal 117 runs not out off just 57 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018. Overall, Watson has accumulated 389 runs from 12 IPL playoff appearances, averaging a healthy 35.36.
