Lucknow Super Giants’ Mayank Yadav has become the talk of the town after bowling the fastest ball of the IPL 2024 season so far! Clocking an impressive 156.7 kmph during their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the 21-year-old not only broke his own record but also secured a place in the history books.
This fiery delivery came just days after Yadav impressed everyone by bowling nine deliveries exceeding 150 kmph against Punjab Kings. His previous fastest ball, recorded at 155.8 kmph, was already the quickest of the season at that point. Now, Yadav has taken things a notch higher, showcasing his exceptional pace once again.
This achievement is even more remarkable considering it ranks as the fifth-fastest delivery ever bowled in the IPL! Currently, only Umran Malik of Sunrisers Hyderabad holds the top spot with a ball clocked at 156.7 kmph in the 2022 season. Yadav, however, sits proudly at the second spot among Indian bowlers.
Yadav’s impact wasn’t limited to just this record-breaking delivery. He started strong, dismissing RCB’s dangerous batsman Glenn Maxwell for a duck with a quick 151 kmph delivery. He followed this up by removing another key player, Cameron Green, further disrupting RCB’s batting rhythm. Later, he almost had Dinesh Karthik out but a close call with the Decision Review System (DRS) saved the batsman.
The match eventually saw Lucknow Super Giants emerge victorious, with Yadav contributing significantly with his bowling performance. He finished his spell with a phenomenal 3 wickets for just 14 runs in his 4 overs, making it his second consecutive three-wicket haul in as many matches.
Mayank Yadav’s fiery pace has certainly set the IPL stage on fire. With his talent and dedication, cricket fans can expect to see this young speedster achieve even greater feats in the seasons to come!
Last year, Mohammed Siraj was the star bowler of the IPL. He dominated the first six overs of innings, taking wickets and barely giving away any runs. This season, however, things have gone terribly wrong for Siraj. In 2023, Siraj was the second-highest wicket-taker in the powerplay, just behind Mohammed Shami. He was so good that his bowling average was just under 6 runs per over
In cricket, just like any other sport, fielders can make a huge difference in whether their team wins or loses.
