The Indian cricket team is currently in the thick of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, battling it out to reach the finals and be crowned the ultimate Test champion. Here’s a closer look at India’s remaining fixtures in the WTC 2023-25, which promise some nail-biting cricket:

Bangladesh Tour of India (September-October 2024):

India’s remaining WTC fixtures kick off with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The action begins on September 19th, 2024 in Chennai, where the historic Chepauk Stadium will host the first Test. The second Test will be held in Kanpur’s Green Park Ground from September 27th. This series will be a chance for India to take on their neighbours in familiar conditions and solidify their position in the WTC points table.

New Zealand Tour of India (October-November 2024):

Following a short break, the action shifts to another home series, this time against the strong New Zealand team for three Tests. The first Test kicks off on October 16th in Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. New Zealand is known for its exceptional bowling attack, so expect some thrilling contests between these two cricketing giants. The second and third Tests will be held in Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium and Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium respectively, on October 24 and November 1 respectively.

The ultimate test awaits India in the form of a grueling five-match Test series against Australia in Australia. This prestigious series, called the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will be played between November 2024 and January 2025. Winning in Australia is no easy feat, and India will have to be at their absolute best to emerge victorious. The famed Australian pitches and passionate crowds will be a major challenge, but India has a good record Down Under in recent years. The 1st Test will commence on November 22, followed by 2nd on December 06, 3rd on December 14, 4th on December 26, and then Final on January 03 2025.

The Road to the WTC Finals

India’s performance in these remaining matches will be crucial for their qualification for the WTC finals. Every Test win is vital, and the team will be looking to conquer as many matches as possible to secure a top-two spot in the points table. With a strong batting line-up and a potent bowling attack, India has all the ingredients to be successful in the WTC. The upcoming months will be a true test of their temperament, technique, and ability to perform under pressure.
