The IPL is a batsman’s paradise, with big scores and explosive hitting. But for bowlers, there’s a special kind of glory: taking six wickets in a single match! That’s a super tough feat in a format where they only get to bowl four overs (24 balls). So far, only 3 bowlers have achieved this amazing accomplishment, and none are even Indian! Let’s meet these wicket-taking machines:
Alzarri Joseph

This fiery fast bowler from the West Indies dismantled the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting order in 2019. Playing for Mumbai Indians, Joseph ripped through their lineup, taking an incredible 6 wickets for just 12 runs in just over 3 overs! His economical bowling (giving away very few runs) and his ability to take wickets at crucial moments completely turned the tide of the match for Mumbai.
Sohail Tanvir

Back in the very first season of the IPL (2008), Sohail Tanvir, playing for the Rajasthan Royals, wrote his name in the history books. He picked up a mind-blowing 6 wickets for only 14 runs against the Chennai Super Kings. Tanvir’s victims included big names like Parthiv Patel and Stephen Fleming, and he helped Rajasthan Royals win the match comfortably. Interestingly, he went on to become the highest wicket-taker of that entire IPL season!
Adam Zampa

The only spinner to achieve this feat is the Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa. Playing for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016, he spun a web around the Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen, taking 6 wickets for just 19 runs in his 4 overs. Zampa’s victims included star players like Kane Williamson and Yuvraj Singh. Even though his team ended up losing the match by a narrow margin, Zampa’s bowling performance was truly exceptional.
With the IPL 2024 season underway, all eyes are peeled to see if any bowler can join this elite club and write their name in the record books with a sensational six-wicket haul!
