South Africa’s Marco Jansen has reached a major milestone in his international career, becoming the world’s No. 1-ranked Test bowler and Test all-rounder in the latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings released on October 28, 2026.
The left-arm fast-bowling all-rounder climbed to the top of both categories after a standout performance against Australia in the second Test at Gqeberha. Jansen contributed 85 runs with the bat and claimed a crucial five-wicket haul in Australia’s first innings, helping South Africa secure a comprehensive victory.
His rise has also ended India’s Ravindra Jadeja’s long reign at the top of the Test all-rounder rankings. Jadeja had held the No. 1 position for more than four years.
Jansen’s performance against Australia helped him overtake Australia’s Mitchell Starc to become the top-ranked Test bowler in the world.
The 26-year-old climbed five places in the bowling rankings following his influential display in the second Test. His height, left-arm angle, pace and ability to generate bounce have made him an increasingly important part of South Africa’s bowling attack.
Jansen’s rise reflects his growing influence in Test cricket, where he has established himself as a player capable of making important contributions with both bat and ball.

Jansen also moved to the top of the ICC Test all-rounder rankings, displacing India’s Ravindra Jadeja.
Jadeja had occupied the leading position for more than four years, thanks to his consistent performances as a left-arm spinner and lower-order batter. Jansen’s recent form has now pushed him ahead of the Indian star.
The achievement is particularly significant because the all-rounder rankings reward contributions in both batting and bowling. Jansen’s 85-run innings and five-wicket haul against Australia demonstrated his ability to influence a Test match in both disciplines.
Jansen played a decisive role in South Africa’s victory in the second Test at Gqeberha. His 85 runs provided valuable support with the bat, while his five-wicket haul in Australia’s first innings put the opposition under significant pressure.
His performance helped South Africa level the three-match Test series 1-1 after Australia had won the opening match.
Jansen’s all-round display also strengthened his growing reputation as one of the most influential players in South African cricket. Former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn had recently praised Jansen, describing him as one of the best cricketers in the world.
Jansen’s improved form was reflected in the Test batting rankings as well. He moved up 13 places to 56th after his important contribution against Australia.
The rise across all three Test categories underlines his value to the South African team. While his bowling remains his primary strength, his batting gives the team additional flexibility and depth.
South Africa will hope Jansen can maintain this form as the team continues its campaign in the ICC World Test Championship.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma was another major beneficiary of the latest rankings update. After scoring 179 runs in the second Test against Australia, Bavuma climbed four places to second in the Test batting rankings.
England captain Harry Brook remained ahead of him at the top of the list.
The rankings update also brought gains for several other international players across Test, ODI and T20I cricket, reflecting the impact of recent performances.
Jansen’s rise to No. 1 in both the Test bowling and all-rounder rankings is a significant achievement for South African cricket. It recognises his development into a match-winning player who can provide crucial breakthroughs and valuable runs.
His ability to contribute in multiple departments gives South Africa greater balance in Test cricket. If he continues delivering performances like the one against Australia, Jansen could remain a key figure in the team’s future international campaigns.
