The IPL is a super popular and wealthy cricket league. Leading a team here is a big deal! Out of all the captains in the IPL’s history, only a few have played over 100 matches as captain, and just two have done it more than 150 times. Let’s see who are the top captains, who have played the most number of IPL matches.
MS Dhoni

Rohit Sharma

Second on the list of players with the most matches as captain of a team is Rohit Sharma. Rohit Sharma captained Mumbai Indians for 11 years, winning an impressive 87 matches out of 158. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, another IPL leader, sadly never clinched a trophy despite captaining Royal Challengers Bangalore for 11 seasons. Kohli captained RCB in 143 games, won 66 matches but lost 70, the only captain with more losses than wins among those leading over 100 games.
Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir, a two-time IPL champion with KKR, is back with the team as a mentor for IPL 2024. An aggressive leader, he captained KKR and Delhi Capitals for a total of 129 matches, winning an impressive 71! His win percentage of 55.03 is only marginally behind Rohit’s 55.06. Gambhir has now rejoined KKR for IPL 2024 as a mentor.

However, his leadership struggled later in his career and was released by Sunrisers in 2022. He has won 40 out of the 83 matches he led a team in and lost 41.
