Top T20 World Cup records that could be broken in USA and West Indies

Cricket fans, the stage is set for another thrilling ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, this time co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies! Buckle up, because with the explosive nature of T20 cricket, we might just witness history being made. Here are some records that could be shattered in this edition:

Australia’s Trophy Haul Dream

Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, led them to a historic win last year, clinching both the ICC Test Championship and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Now, in the Caribbean, they have a unique chance. If they manage to win the 2024 T20 World Cup, they’ll become the first team ever to hold all three ICC trophies (Test, ODI, and T20) at the same time!  And that’s not all, Australia is also the defending champion in the U19 Cricket World Cup (both men’s and women’s) as well as the senior Women’s Cricket World Cup. Can they achieve this incredible feat of cricketing dominance?

Who Will Smash the Fastest Hundred Record?

Chris Gayle currently holds the record for the fastest T20 World Cup century, achieving it in just 47 balls. However, this might be challenged. Nepal’s Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton smashed the overall fastest T20 century this year in just 33 balls!  With more teams and some serious hitters participating, this record could very well be broken this time around.

The Chase for Most Fours

Virat Kohli, the run machine, holds the record for most runs in the T20 World Cup. He’s also close to another record – most fours. Currently, Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardena sits at the top with 111 fours, while Kohli trails closely behind with 103. This edition could see Kohli attempt to add this title to his name. Other big names like Rohit Sharma and David Warner will also be aiming for this record.

Can David Warner Grab the Most Catches Record?

The record for most catches by a fielder in the T20 World Cup belongs to the legendary AB de Villiers with 23 grabs. David Warner, the Australian opener, is right behind him with 21 catches.  As Warner gears up for another World Cup, he’ll have his eyes set on this record. Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell are also contenders with 16 catches each.

Run Feast with More Matches

This year, the T20 World Cup expands to a record 20 teams, meaning teams could potentially play up to nine matches.  This increase in matches could lead to a new record for the most runs scored in a single edition of the tournament. Currently, Virat Kohli holds this record with 319 runs scored in 6 matches back in 2014. With more matches to play, batsmen have a golden opportunity to rewrite this record.

Get ready for explosive batting, stunning catches, and history-making moments as the T20 World Cup unfolds in the USA and West Indies!
