The IPL is a breeding ground for cricketing talent, and that includes fast bowlers who can light up the speed gun. Here’s a look at the top 5 fastest deliveries ever recorded in the IPL:

Shaun Tait – 157.71 kmph (2011)

This Australian menace holds the record for the fastest ball ever bowled in the IPL. In 2011, while playing for Rajasthan Royals, Tait unleashed a scorching delivery clocked at a mind-blowing 157.71 kmph! Not only was this the fastest in the IPL, but it was also one of the fastest deliveries in the entire history of cricket. He played for the Rajasthan Royals for four seasons, appearing in 21 games and grabbing 23 wickets.

Lockie Ferguson – 157.3 kmph (2022)

New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson isn’t far behind Tait. During the IPL 2022 final, Ferguson became the tournament’s fastest bowler for the season by clocking an impressive 157.3 kmph delivery while playing for Gujarat Titans against Rajasthan Royals.

Umran Malik – 157.0 kmph (2022)

Umran Malik, the young pacer, took the IPL by storm in 2022 with his raw pace. He clocked a fiery 157.0 kmph delivery for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Delhi Capitals, making him one of the fastest bowlers in the tournament.

Anrich Nortje – 156.22 kmph (2020)

South Africa’s Anrich Nortje isn’t just about power; he’s got accuracy too. During an IPL 2020 match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, Nortje unleashed a searing 156.22 kmph delivery against Jos Buttler, contributing to the team’s journey to the final of the IPL 2020 championship, making it the 4th fastest ball in IPL history.

Mayank Yadav – 155.8 kmph (2024)

The latest entrant to this prestigious club is the young Indian bowler Mayank Yadav. In his IPL debut for the 2024 season, Yadav surprised everyone by clocking a rapid 155.8 kmph delivery against Punjab Kings. His ability to combine raw pace with control makes him a rising star to watch out for.

The future of fast bowling in the IPL looks bright! With these young talents emerging alongside established speedsters, fans can expect to witness even faster deliveries and more thrilling displays of cricketing skill in the seasons to come.
