Virat Kohli, the name synonymous with batting brilliance in India, has written his name in the history books once again. During a thrilling run chase against the Punjab Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Kohli not only played a match-winning knock of 77 runs off just 49 balls, but also achieved a remarkable feat – becoming the first Indian cricketer and only the third in the world to register 100 fifty-plus scores in T20 cricket!
This is a massive achievement for Kohli, solidifying his position as a T20 legend. His knock of 77 included 11 boundaries and 2 sixes, a true masterclass in chasing down a target. This fifty was even more special because it was his 100th score of smashing 50 runs in the shortest format of the game. Only two other batsmen have reached this elite club before Kohli – the explosive Chris Gayle from the West Indies and the ever-reliable David Warner of Australia. Gayle, known for his aggressive batting, leads the pack with a whopping 110 fifty-plus scores, while Warner sits close behind with 109. Kohli, with his 100 scores achieved in 378 matches, joins this prestigious group.
Looking at Kohli’s contribution to the Indian T20 team specifically, the numbers are even more impressive. Out of his 100 fifty-plus scores, a significant 38 came while playing as India’s T20 representative. He is the clear leader in this category at the international level, leaving behind talented batsmen like Babar Azam (36) and his Indian teammate Rohit Sharma (34).
With the IPL season still in full swing, there’s no doubt that Kohli will be looking to add even more fifty-plus scores to his already impressive tally. His next challenge is against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 29th. Can Kohli continue his dominance and lead RCB to another victory? Cricket fans around the world will be eagerly waiting to see what magic he unfolds next.
